§ 1 Fishing time

Allows for fishing after atlantic salmon inside the period from 1. june until 31. august


§ 2 Fishing equipment

Only Fishing with rods is allowed. It is not legal to use more than one rod at the same time. As bite it is only allowed use of natural worms*), spoon, spinner, fly and wobblers with max one treble hook. Fishing with prawn or artificial worms**) are forbidden. If import of natural worm to Norway, national rules must be followed. It is not legal to use more than 3 hooks. 1 treble hook goes for 3 hooks. The distance from the leg to the peak of a treble hook must not be more than 13 mm (size 2/0). For single hooks the same maximum distance is 15 mm. (size 4/0). As casting weights only "water balls" and fly lines are allowed. Use of sinking weights only allowed for fishing with worms. 

*) Natural worm = biological worm.

**) Artificial worm = technically produced worm.



§ 3 Quotas

Every person with a valid fishing licence  (NOK 310,-) can kill maximum 1 salmon per day (total for season = 4). If limits are passed, the fishing has to be stopped for the rest of the fishing day. The daily quota is defined as the total number of salmon a person can kill during one day (0:00-24:00).

If in doubt about the fish will survive any restocking the fish shall be sacrificed and submitted. The fish do not go to the quota when it is confirmed submitted at nearby elderly home. Released fish does not count in the quotas.You can kill a maximum of 1 salmon (male salmon) over 80 cm per season. When the season quota of four salmon is reached, the fishing has to be stopped for the rest of the season. C&R fish are imposed to be reported at the catch stats, lettered F&S. (Released fish does not count in the quotas)

§ 4 Maximum, Minimum target and reinstatement

All salmon under 35 cm must be released alive. All female salmon over 65 cm must be released alive again, and any fish that has stayed in the river during the wintertime (salmon-kelts) has to be released and put back into the river. All sea trout and brown trout must be released alive. If there is any doubt about the sex of the fish, the fish must be released alive. We request that all spawn colored salmon be released live. If there is any doubt as to whether the fish will survive a possible re-release, the fish must be killed and handed in. The fish does not go on the quota once it has been confirmed submitted. This also applies in case of misjudgment of gender. Live re-released fish are not counted in the quota. Reintroduction of fish must be done gently and in line with Orkla Community Management's guidelines.


§ 5 Catch reporting

All fishermen who are going to fish in Orkla must have the Orkla card before they start fishing. All fish must be reported continuously to Orkla management throughout the season, including returned fish. Fishing cannot be resumed until fish caught have been reported. The catch report must contain at least the following information; date, selection, species, sex, weight, length, fisherman's name, gear and whether the fish has been killed or returned. The fisherman is responsible for the catch being reported with correct information. All catch information will be published on the salmon exchange for Orkla. Orkla management reserves the right to further use photos submitted. Photos and shell samples of all killed salmon must be submitted. By writing your mobile phone number on the shell envelope, you agree to receive an SMS from the Veterinary Institute with answers to your shell sample. Telephone numbers are not used for other purposes and are deleted at the end of the project season.


§ 6 (Regulation that not affect our fishing zones)


§ 7 Disinfection of fishing equipment

All fishing gear, nets, boots, waders, boats and the like that have been used in other rivers in the current season must be disinfected before use in Orkla. When importing fishing equipment, nets, boots, waders, boats and other equipment into Norway, everything must be cleaned and disinfected before it can be used in the rivers. A certificate that this has been carried out must be shown when renting fishing or buying a fishing licence. This certificate must be carried by the fisherman when fishing, and presented at eventually inspection. Disinfection is free for person under the age of 18. 

This is for protecting our fishing area against illnesses and parasites, especially the Gyrodactylus Salaris. All fishermen and -women must follow advices of the deputies.

Any person fishing in the river must carry fishing license and disinfection papers


§ 8 Spawning grounds stock-measuring

At end of july, there will be a estimation of the salmons at the spawning grounds in the riversystem. If this estimate dont reach the spawning target that are set to the stocks GBM (Shepherd SR model ) : 3 – 5 eggs pr m2 river , there are opened to be set other rules for august. 


§ 9 Penalty

Violation of the rules, as well as complicity in violations may result in exclusion, a fee and a police report.

Fee for:

- missing Orkla card, photo of killed fish and shell sample is up to NOK. NOK 1,000.

- failure to disinfect, failure to report and breach of the rules in connection with tool use is up to NOK. NOK 3,000.

- quota violations and complicity in quota violations are up to NOK 6,000.

Fishing cannot be resumed until the imposed fee has been paid.

People caught for quota violations or unacceptable behavior will be expelled from Orkla for two years. In aggravating cases, the ban can be extended. Excluded fishermen are themselves responsible for refraining from fishing. If this is not complied with, the ban will be extended.

The owner/renter/card seller has a duty to provide information on the current regulations in the river, as well as to check whether the fisherman has paid the fishing fee and has a valid disinfection certificate. The venue for disputes is Trondheim Conciliation Council and/or Sør-Trøndelag District Court.
