In April, almost a hundred wintered salmon-kelts (støinger) have been caught in Orkla.
This week 10 of them get free ride far out the sea, those will bear very advanced electronics.
The research that the University of Tromsø and NINA (Norwegian Institute for Nature Research) together, will provide information about salmon migration at sea. A selection "støinger" from Orkla will bear a very advanced and expensive transmitter, which stores data that can provide information about where they have swum. 1st of November the transmitter will release from the fish body, whether the salmon is the river or sea. Then it flows up and scientists collects the data via satellite.
A small selection of fish from the river Neiden and Alta, and from some rivers in Ireland and Iceland are also equipped with the same advanced transmitters. - Video from the event here
