Norwegian Tourist board complains to the BBC

The Norwegian Tourist board part of Innovation Norway has complained formally to the BBC about the BBC's misleading television report on the treatment of Gyrodactylus Salaris (Gs) in Norway’s salmon rivers (Broadcast Monday 20 October/Tuesday 21 October on Television and radio). The BBC even state on their website that ‘Hundreds of Norwegian rivers are being treated with chemicals to kill off bacteria which are destroying the country's freshwater salmon stocks’. Harald Øyen, salmon fisheries consultant to Innovation Norway, was shocked and dismayed when he saw the BBC programme.

Salmon de Semana

After many chances and one lost, Johny Prado could finally land this beauty of a macho 10,2 kg's (22,48 pound) salmon at "La Isla" this morning. After 15 minuttes perfect work, the salmon is on the way to Spain. New salmon-flyrecord for Johny, Felicidades!

33,7 pounds Salmon

This one was catched at our lowest pool early this morning, 15,3 kg. (115/58cm) Svein Erik Haug and his redbutt tube fly, got a new personal record with this one, congratulations to him!

TOPP 10 ORKLA:

40 Pounder

Our spanish guests have had some nice days in Orkla and so far landed 8 salmons (average 20,6 pound/9,3 kg !).

Today at Øya pool, this 18,5 kg's (126/63 cm) was landed after a 400 meters run down from the pool. Carles and Jose Louis used 45 minuttes of hard fighting in the streams.

- Update

We had the third river-flow inside this season at the end of july, many years since the river had that high water levels through all season. Also the season have been special in the fact that there have been a huge lack of grillse, and the ones we see are in low condition. For the big ones, 7 kg`s up, the river flow have been perfect. They have also been in great quantity and in very good condition. Statisticaly, season 2007 begins to look like the season 2004:

Total of 1768 salmons

(pr. 31.august: 2270 salmons) .

Total weight 10489,9 kilo (12956,3 kilo) and average salmon at 5,93 kilo (5,7 kilo) .

Classify: Big ones: 700 (819) Mediumweight: 703 (925) Grillse: 365 (526)

2004 end season:

Total of 1802 salmons.

Total weight 10023,2 kilo and average salmon at 5,56 kilo.

Classify: Big ones: 537 Mediumweight: 816 Grilse: 449

2004 season ended up with 17 tons at the officially* catch stats, a average season. The next season gave 25 tons catched.

- Half season gone

Still the big salmons are restraining the river, the small and medium weight ones are yet not shown in quantities as usual. The river Orkla have once again shown its reputation as the big salmons river. Typical inside this first half season, is that those big ones are very quietly moving upstream, and therefore become very challenging for the fishing spirit.
Comparison season 2006 and 2007 untill today for the weight classes shows clearly whats missing:
2006/2007 - 1- 3 kg: 22/0 3-7 kg: 30/8 7 kg - up: 8/18
Hopefully the smaller salmons arrives very soon! Average weight at the Lodge are all time high with 17,9 Pound (8,13 kg)

- 29,8 Pounder

Another great salmon landed at our lowest pool Øya. Nils Bastiansen had a hard fight against this 13,5 kg (29,8 pounds) giant with the fly-rod for 1/2 hour this morning.
Condition dates: 108 cm long and 61 cm waist.

Tor-Arne Ekstr��m catched this beauty 21st june, 9 kg newrunner.

Average at our Lodge is 8,92 kg (19.8 pound) pr 21. june.

- 30 Pounds salmon

This great salmon was catched at our lowest pool wedensday evening, weight 30,4 Pound (13,8 kg). We have in the last week observed some real big ones down there and this is maybe one of them that have been resting in this pool, there was non sea lice on it so this one could have been there for a while.





The same morning this new runned medium weighter of 9,9 Pound (4,5 kg) was landed by Astrid Olander H��kanson, in the same pool.
